Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• I have had my premises broken into and I have lost a tractive unit. I agree with Tom Llewellyn's Sound-off (CM 13-19 Aug) that the police should not waste time catching VED evaders.

However, putting aside Llewellyn's vested interest, how else can you tell that a vehicle is insured and tested except by glancing at a windscreen?

What about the test and insurance? Don't suggest that we have another disc; the idea would never work. And how would you identify other illegal acts?

The public rightly believe the police spend too much tune on traffic duty. Witness the motorist fined E800 last week for being 14mph over the limit. He was definitely in the wrong, but did he really deserve an Z800 fine?

David Holmes, Holmes of Heathrow, Feltham, Middx.
