abroad, am is never as easy to get out of it, especially if you are on yi own. Many things can go wrong, apart from breakdow which cause delay and cost the operator money. Here is hi same members of the Continental Freight Drivers Club ha experienced the power and assistance of Les Routiers.

Keith Brooker, an area officer of the CFDC, tells of the story when he pulled off the road, just to check his oil. A foreign lorry saw the Les Routiers pennants on the lorry and immediately pulled in to find out if Keith was in trouble and needed any help. This type of incident occurs frequently.

Bob Webster, another area officer was stopped outside Paris by the police. They proved to be difficult, and Bob felt that a long delay could occur before the matter was sorted out. However, he produced his membership card to the police, who immediately changed their attitude. He was very quickly on his way again.

Another UDC member was taken ill with food-poisoning in France. He contacted Les Routiers who visited him in hospital, checked his load and would have got him back to England, had he not recovered sufficiently. His medical expenses were covered by the CFDC Insurance.

I was phoned by a firm which asked me whether the CFDC could assist one of their drivers who was stranded in France. Unfortunately, he was not a member. That fi learned the hard way!

No one can deny the er mous value of local help local knowledge when in d culty, which is the raison d'E of the Union Internationale Chauffeurs Routiers, the EL pean organisation represent some 600,000 driv throughout nine Western EL pearl countries.
