Light CV prices remain healthy at the end of a first quarter marked by busy auction halls and willing buyers. Manheim's CV

director Alex Wright reports.

Starting with a bit of an exception to the sellers' market, lets take a look at PCVs. Demand has been weak since the start of the year with only low-mileage vehicles and 17seaters attracting much interest. One of the best examples seen in the halls recently was a 123hp Transit 350 17-seater on an 03/53 plate with 38,000 miles on the clock and finished in silver. It created a buzz among buyers and sold for £10,900.

By way of contrast, tippers are in short supply — even highmileage vehicles in poor condition are finding buyers. Toyota's Dyna D-4D 350M tipper has stood out from the crowd in recent weeks; one particularly tidy 03/52 model sold for £7.000.

Despite impending model launches in the small panel van sector, including the Citroen Dispatch,Fiat Scudo and Peugeot Expert, buyers don't seem to be delaying purchases while they await the new models. The Toyota Hiace and Nissan Vanette are also in demand, with most examples finding a buyer at first offer and at a high price, primarily because of short supply.

There are still lots of Transits around so buyers can afford to be choosy about the spec they're after. Look out for examples priced according to their condition and mileage — too many Transits are still being offered with unrealistic reserves. Many rental companies have been updating their fleets recently so some desirable, clean vans are available with good mileage. Two notable examples we sold recently were a Renault Master LH35 205 DCI (04/04) with 42,000 miles on the clock, which fetched £8,000; and a high-root LWB Volkswagen LT35 2.5 TD (04/04) with 41.000 miles, which sold for £8,550.

If you're looking for value, a corporate coloured Renault Kangoo or Vauxhall Combo could fit the bill.Tidy examples of both models are available for around £2,500. with some examples still within their threeyear warranty period. More generically, the plentiful supply of vehicles over 3.5 tonnes ensures prices are reasonable, particularly for vehicles over five years old.

It's show time

Manheim Auctions will once again be exhibiting at the Commercial Vehicle Show; find us at stand 210 in Hall 5.

We'll be launching our Fair Wear and Tear Guide fur HGV.s. which offers HGV drivers and operators a clear insight into the grey area of fair wear and tear on heavy vehicles and trailers.

The Commercial Vehicle team will be performing live demonstrations of paintless dentremoval techniques throughout the show and will be on hand to provide an insight into the used commercial vehicle market. •
