lit theheart of Truckfest are the driver competitions, and event director Jason Lunn says: "Every year we seem to close the entries earlier than ever due to the tremendous interest and 2006 is no exception. We've got a bumper crop of top-quality working and custom truck competitors with plenty of new vehicles, plus loads of international entrants."
Among the celebrities will be BBC Radio 2's Sally Traffic-always popular with Truckfest visitors while the Sunday night entertainment is provided by John Coughlan's Status Quo tribute band. Meanwhile. if you're looking for excitement in the main ring there are no fewer than four monster trucks at Peterborough. "Monstrous is an all-new truck and we have managed to get Bigfoot 17 to come back too!" reports Lunn.
You might be interested in an exhibitor that has come all the way from Manitoba in Canada. Funks Livestock Transport is attending Truckfest with the aim of recruiting UK HGV drivers who wish to go on contract in Canada and drive the wide open roads. Truckfest boss Colin Ward reckons: "It looks as if the driver shortage we all hear about is a worldwide problem, but I'm sure that there are going to be some UK drivers who will fancy a period in Canada.'
