An ambitious Scottish haulage firm is expanding its operation and moving to a new site. Guy Sheppard reports.

BUILDING MAIERIALS specialist Ian Craig (Haulage) is investing £2.5m in new premises to cope with expansion.

The company has chosen the 16acre site at High Bonnybridge near Falkirk because it is close to its main customers as well as its present base.

Part of the investment involves concreting over the land, which was formerly a waste disposal plant. But director Kevin Craig report that a full environmental assessment shows there is no serious contamination.

The company is not actively looking for new business, says Craig: -All our existing customers have expanded over the last couple of years and we've expanded with them.

"When we came here 25 years ago, we had six to eight lorries. Now we're running 40 lorries with 75 trailers and employing 50 peo ple. And we'll be recruiting more following the move in March."

Half of the site will be leased to one of its customers, Hanson Building Products, which will set up a new Scottish distribution depot there.

Ian Craig (Haulage) is submitting plans for a new haulage yard. offices and garage after acquiring the site from waste management company Shanks & McEwan for an undisclosed sum.
