• The Missing Persons Helpline is hesitating over offers to publicise details of missing children around the country after drivers found a cheaper way of displaying its posters on the backs of their trucks.

Hauliers propose to carry descriptions of missing people on plywood frames mounted on the backs and sides of trucks as a cheaper alternative to the £1,000 resprays used by the Body Shop to carry details on four of its vehicles.

Owner-driver Harry Rodgers asked the Helpline for the size of its posters after reading a request for help from the Lindsay Jo Rimer appeal, shortly before the missing 14-yearold' s body was found.

But the Helpline has not yet answered his request and a spokeswoman has told CM that the organisation is still considering offers from three haulage Firms. "It's great news," she says. "But we're not sure if we're going to do this. You've got to think about the effect on the missing person and the family."
