Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

THE decision by oil companies to issue oil in cans has set the problem of how to dispose of bulky tins, often in large quantities. Mann Egerton and Co., Ltd., Norwich, have produced an answer in introducing their Can Crusher. This is a pneumatically operated machine which crushes pint and quart cans into a compact, easily disposable unit occupying about one eighth of the original space.

The Mann Egerton Can Crusher consists of a rigid frame built around a powerful pneumatic ram and can be mounted on to any convenient bin or drum. The empty oil can is dropped into the unit and when the lid is closed it operates a control valve allowing air to enter the main cylinder. This actuates the ram which crushes the can against an internal anvil.

When the lid is opened, the ram retracts and the can is• automatically ejected. The whole operation takes about 10 seconds. The equipment measures 28.5 in. long, 9 in. wide and 5.5 in. high.

Air pressure required is 80 and the unit costs £18.
