THE foundation of what may eventually be a long-distance hauliers' functional group of the Road Haulage Association was laid last Week. A meeting of long-distance hauliers was held in-London under the chairmanship of Mr. James Barrie, the national chairman. Delegates were nominated by the areas and each area represented.

The delegates decided to ask the R.H.A. National Executive Committee at their. meeting on Wednesday of this week to agree to form a committee -representing the interests of longdistance operators. The setting up of a functional group would necessitate altering the articles of association, but the enthusiasm of long-distance hauliers for special representation in the R.H.A. is such that this step may be taken.

A provisional committee was set up and will meet again on May 7 to discuss further details.

Among the problems to be settled are the relationship between British Road Services and private enterprise, rates and rate-cutting, and the use of clearing houses.
