Tlie export production plan for motor vehicles, which have a basic trade value of R/12,000,000 annually, has now been in force for several months and is achieving good results, The new Group will cater equally for motor parts and accessories and garage equipment, valued at over 3,000,000 annually. Mr. Routes stated, a few days ago, that every endeavour would he made to exceed these figures. which did not necessarily represent the full extent to which it might be possible for the motor industry of the United Kingdom to support the Government's export trade drive.

Throughout the first seven months of the war, added Mr. Rootes, the industry maintained an export of over 1,000 vehicles a week, with a total exceeding 30,000. The Empire demand was exceptionally good, particularly from Australia, India, Malaya and Ceylon, but increased numbers of vehicles had also been sent to Uruguay, Argentina, Portugal and other foreign markets.
