Langdow-n & Sons was given an absolute discharge by the Selby, North Yorkshire magistrates after admitting using an over-length drawbar DOT traffic examiner Ian Tucker said the three-axled rigid livestock trans porter and two-axled trailer were checked at the Selby Cattle Market in March. He measured the combination and found the overall length to be 18.75m; 750rnin over the permitted length of 18m. Director Brian Langdown said he had submitted the trailer for conversion to a drawbar outfit to a local trailer manufacturer some three years ago. It had since been submitted for tests and had been checked at the roadside several times with no problem.

Gary Hodgson, defending, said the company had relied on the firm that made the modifications.

The combination had then been altered by a different trailer maker at a cost of £2,800. At the beginning of next year the drawbar length limit w ill be increased to 18.75m. The magistrates made no order as to
