RECENTLY, we referred 'briefly to a plan for the registration of bus passengers,'arrapged by the Trent Motor Traction Co., Ltd., • with the full support of Mr. J. H. Stirk, the Regional Transport Commissioner for the area concerned. The first experiment was made by the company on. one of its btisy routes between Nottingham and Mansfield for the early morning services'. Arrangements were made whereby fegular, workers obtained lettersof confirmation from their employers, and such persons„.were given preference of travel.

. This proved such a success, -by preventing early buses from being crowded out by shoppers and trunecessary.travellers, that the scheme has been further developed b Mr, S. Ferry, the traffic manager. Now, all passengers on all the company's routes who wish to travel on workmen's services are requested to register with the company. Employers are, at the same time asked to forward to the company the names of their employees end the routes on which they are travelling. The hts. company then forwards to the employers permits for the persons in question, different colours being used for males, females, regular travellers and seasonal. travellers of both sexes. The permit does nOt guarantee accommodation, but is a form of priority pass.

This new scheme commenced last week and has already met with a satisfactory response from all concerned. At the moment it applies only to patserigers travelling on the company's services, but it I* hoped that other undertakings may follow the example, so that the scheme will become universal'throughmit the whole of' the di,itrict. •
