Norfolk haulage firm Bartrums
THETFORD-BASED Bartrums had a year of mixed fortunes in the year ending December 2005, with one part of the business growing well and the other coming under pressure from high fuel costs.
Bartrums Road Services, a dedicated contract business for paper, board and plastics firm Robert Home as part of the Pallet-Track network, saw pre-tax profit rise 55% from 1271,000 to £419,0(X). Turnover rose from 11.8m to13.2m.
Meanwhile Bartrums Haulage & Storage, which specialises in bulk haulage, saw pre-tax profit fall nearly 160,000 from 1580,330 to 1522.428 during the year.Tumo ver, on the other hand, grew from 112.5m to 113.9m.
Managing director Shaun Bartrum says: "We started in PalletTrack in January 2004 and after a slow start [business] took off in 2005."
Bartrum says high fuel costs in the second half of last year affected the profits of the Haulage & Storage business. "We've now negotiated rates to cover the fuel costs," says Bartrum.
Business this year seems to be following the same pattern as last year.with Bartrums Road Services so far performing better than Haulage & Storage.
"Trading is going quite well similar to 2005," says Bartrum.
Bartrums is also a member of the Jigsaw consortium.
