Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• GE Capital-Key Lease has set up a web site at www.gekeytrucks.com to help it dispose of second-hand es lease vehicles.

Visitors can browse the stock list and view vehicles on screen; they can also request a telephone or e-mail response to any queries, and can reserve a particular truck or trailer prior to visiting the company's site at Carrington, Manchester.

In future operators mil be able to buy or lease on-fine, alongside the established fax-uback service.

Key Lease has handled more than 3,500 used vehicles over the past year, including about 1,000 from Carrington. The others were sold direct to waiting customers when they came off contract without going anywhere near the Manchester depot.

"We hold quite a mixed selection of tractive units, rigids, and trailers, as well as municipal vehicles and even welfare buses," says Steve Wild, asset manager, Europe. "A lot of the tractors are fleet-spec units that have been in service with customers such as Tesco and Tibbett & Britten."

Increasingly, however, he's talking about 380hp models with sleeper Gabs; the days of the 320hp day-cabbed unit seem to be drawing to a close because the residuals are so poor and leasing rates reflect this.

'Prices for tractors are still weak, but we're finding that they've stopped sliding," says Wild. The trucks that he disposes of are no more than five years old, arid the trailers are no more than 10 years old.

Covering five acres, with a four-bay workshop and 75 employees, Carrington usually has upwards of 250 items in stock.

Wild believes that the web site will take off dramatically over the next few years, "Not everybody has a PC at home at present, but they'll become more common and when that happens the owner-driver will be looking at our site regularly," he predicts. "We're addressing exports through the web site, and there's a fair amount of activity in Eastern Europe at present. We used to do a lot of exports to the Far East, but things there have been very quiet overthe pastthree years."

Key Lease has a network of offices in Hungary, France, Germany, Scandinavia and the Benelux countries.
