Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

THE bus and coach operator is the . seaside resort's best friend,Mr. George Brook, general manager of Ribble Motor Services, and managing director of its subsidiary, W. C. Standerwick, Ltd., told guests at the annual dinner of Standerwick employees in Blackpool last Friday.

"At the holiday resorts we organize day, half-day and evening excursions and it is in this field that we are confronted today with a major problem," he said.

"One of our difficulties, as operators , of excursions, is to find suitable and economical picking-up points. In some resorts we are having to pay such heavy 'rents for private stand space that some excursions now hardly pay their way.

In other resorts, however, far-seeing authorities have set aside stand space for excursions, which can be shared by operators."

Urging other resorts --to follow this example, Mr. Brook added; "I do hope that local authorities in holiday centres which so far have not provided facilities will give serious consideration to the provision of stand space for excursion coaches.

" High rents for private stands could drive excursions off the road, or lead to fares which many holidaymakers would find prohibitive."
