• The secretary-general of a new trade association for the salvage industry has promised to support the Government's plan to reduce vehicle crime by 30% over the next five years. The British Vehicle Salvage Federation (BVSF), which was launched last week, has been established with support from the insurance industry and major vehicle salvage companies in the UK.
Secretary-general Alan Greenouff says: "The association caters for all companies, both large and small, who collect, recover and scrap vehicles. One of our main concerns is crime."
The BVSF is to compile a register of recognised salvage companies which meet its standards. Any "untoward activities" would get them struck off that register.
Members of the association will have to agree to certain stipulations, such as allowing access to their premises by the BVSF at all times.
The BVSF will work with the DVLA to fight vehicle crime in the salvage business. "We support any Government initiative to encourage more marking of parts," says Greenouff.
