• Cumbrian Police is to step up its pleas to BP to improve security at its Truckstop in Penrith after another valuable load was stolen from a lorry parked there last week.

Over 400 vacuum cleaners were found to have been stolen from a Brian Yeardley truck on the morning of 17 November—another in a long line of recent thefts from BP Truckstops in the area (CM 12-18 November),

"Security at the Carlisle stop has improved since we first made approaches to BP. but Penrith needs to get better quickly," says Mike Woolaghan, traffic intelligence officer at Cumbria Police.

A spokesman for BP

says the company is listening to police advice on Truckstop security. "We will take whatever steps are necessary to improve security at this site," he says. "We take this very seriously."
