Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Wincanton turned in the star performance in an otherwise undistinguished set of half-year results from its parent group Unigate.

The distribution company achieved a 35% increase in operating profit to £7.3m. New customers in the period included Lo-Cost, Rigid Containers, Group 4 and Conoco (Ireland). It also doubled its dedicated distribution for Sainsbury's with the acquisition of J Whittam.

Wincanton managing director Chas Lawrence attributes the company's success to tendering for increased levels of new business. Unigate's pre-tax profits for the half year to 30 September fell slightly to £42m from £43.3m for the same period last year.
