PAUL RIVETT is to become managing director of the National Freight Consortium's Australian removals and distribution subsidiary Downarcl-Pickfords.

The appointment takes place on January 1 and Mr Rivett will be based in Melbourne. He will also be managing director of Downard Holdings, the Australian holdings company.

Mr Rivett will be responsible for developing and broadening the NFC's interests there. He will report to Sir Phillip Lynch, chairman of Downard-Pickfords and to Ted Wall, managing director of NFC International.

Mr Rivett joined the NFC in 1976 as marketing manager for the National Carriers group. He became marketing director in 1977 and took the post of group director for parcels operations in 1979.

In 1980 he became managing director of National Carriers Eastern and took up his present position of managing director of National Carriers Contract Services last year.
