Dr Ing Hermann Bruns has joined Leyland Truck and Bus as chief engineer, test operations. Dr Bruns, moves to Leyland from BMW in Germany, and will report to Joe McGowan, engineering director of Truck and Bus.

Dr Bruns, 38, was born in Berlin and educated at the city's technical university, studying mechanical engineering. After completing his degree, he became an assistant professor specialising in research and development with special emphasis on vibration and handling.

In 1969 Dr Bruns joined BMW. He began work in the laboratory and test operations area and later became responsible for all instrumentation for laboratory and road testing.

Latterly, Dr Bruns was in charge of all computer appli cations in BMW's engineering division.

Arthur Norris who had temporarily been performing the duties of acting chief engineer test operations, now returns to his position of executive engineer — resident engineering.

Chris Cernes has been appointed chief engineer at Scammell Motors, Watford. Mr Cernes was previously manager, heavy truck programmes, at Truck and Bus Group headquarters at Leyland, Lancashire.

For Mr Cernes, this means a return to Scammell. Before moving to Leyland in 1973, he was manager, military projects, at Watford.

After serving an apprenticeship with Alvis Limited in Coventry Mr Cernes, 34, spent 7 years with that company — now part of Leyland Special Products — designing military vehicles.

In 1969 he moved to Daimler as Project Engineer on bus design before returning to Alvis in 1970 as special military project engineer.

Bill Morant, 35, has joined Eastern British Road Services as chief accountant. Previously with Pickfords Tank Haulage, he will be based at Eastern's Derby head office.

Douglas Cunningham, who for 14 years was transport manager for the UDS Group (Credit Division), has been appointed London depot manager at Tunnel Cement Ltd, Kings Cross, with responsibilities for the Kew depot.

D. C. J. Grabham becomes managing director of Eaton Limited, in succession to F. D. Volowsek, who is the new head of Eaton Corporation's axle business worldwide in Cleveland, Ohio.

Mr Volowsek remains a director of Eaton Limited and of Eaton Axles Limited.

Mr Grabham is still responsible for the Yale Security Products business of Eaton throughout Europe.
