Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

ANOTHER warning to hauliers to keep a close eye on their charges came last week from Road Haulage Association national chairman, Mr Jack Male.

He said that hauliers must take into account the increased wages and rising costs of maintaining and replacing vehicles. "They must look, too, at the means of improving, wherever possible, the productivity of their own vehicles."

He said that charges must provide more than just the prospect of "precarious survival. They must ensure that there are sufficient funds for re-investment."

And Mr Male added his support to the publication of the Confederation of British Industry document The Road to Recovery. "The CBI has not only identified and analysed our economic difficulties, but suggested policies to overcome them.

"What the CBI is saying is that, in a competitive world, this country must reward initiative, invention, enterprise and risk."

Hauliers were also told of the need to allow the market economy to work more efficiently and to appreciate that funds for investment and expansion depended upon. much higher profit levels.
