AREVISED application estimated to produce between £350,000 and £400,000 a year has been recommended by Leeds Transport Committee in place of the recently withdrawn application for new tram and bus fares designed to yield an extra £250,000. The original case was withdrawn because of the new wage claim. The new proposals, which will come before the December meeting of the city council, Slso aim to produce a surplus towards the reduction of the transport department's accumulated deficit. This stood at £434,525 at March 31 last, and by March next year is estimated to be £507,525. Aid. J. Rafferty, chairman of the committee, stated last week that the 2d. minimum fare would not be affected by the new proposals. It is thought that they provide chiefly for the shortening of stages, but the curtailment of workmen's fares may be sought.
