WHEN Syd Jenkins Coal and Transport Co., Ltd., Newport, applied to the South Wales Licensing Authority for the transfer to them of an excursion and tour licence by Mrs. A. G. Pullin, Queen Croft, Mr. R. C. Maunder, manager of the Cross Keys depot of the Western Welsh Omnibus Co., Ltd., said that one of his company's conductors had travelled on an unlicensed journey in one of the applicants' coaches. The coach travelled from Rogerstone to S'omerton Park football ground on a Saturday in October, said Mr. Maunder, and the conductor was charged 2s. return. No tickets were issued, and the coach was left in a side street, another vehicle being used for the return journey. Mr. Syd Jenkins, a director of Syd 'Jenkins, said he had no knowledge of any unlicensed journey by any of his coaches. He denied that he was trying to buy a licence. He was merely attempting to acquire Mrs. Pullin's business and she consented to the transfer.

Other objectors were Red and White Services, Ltd., Gulley Tours, Ltd., Mr. W. Mahoney, Mr. W. S. Banwell, Mr. T. R. Banwell, Mr. R. Williams and Mrs. S. Porter. Mr. Donald Walters, for six of the objectors, submitted that a company whose administration was so slack was not fit to operate under the terms of • an excursion and tour licence. Decision was reserved.
