Malmesbury-based Mark Jenner currently runs two trucks, including the PriTarder-equipped TGA which is his sixth successive MAN. Since Jenner took delivery on 1 March its already done more than 20,000km on weekly runs to Spain, usually delvering packaged Hazchem materials in the Barcelona area. The return load is invariably ceramics from Valencia, helping satisfy the growing UK demand for tiles which is apparently fuelled by those endless TV home makeover programmes.

The number of serious hills on the route led to the inclusion of a retarder in the spec; the nature of his work and the fact that the truck would be maintained at Swindon led MAN to offer it with the first PriTarder installation in the UK.

The rest of the spec also reflects the nature of its work, including the 530hp power option, TipMatic with the latest simplified controls and a few touches of luxury such as leather seat and steering wheel covers.

The front end carries enough lights to illuminate the darkest Spanish mountainside, and the fuel tanks can carry 1,400 litres of Western Europe's cheapest diesel.

One particularly interesting feature is on the roof, where the standard roof hatch has been replaced by a Dirna Bycool Evolution air-con unit, bought in Spain for around £1,000. As well as providing serious cab cooling independently of the truck's own system, it includes a pressure detecting intrusion alarm.
