URTU hopes to hand in a petition with "thousands of drivers' signatures" to the government in August as part of its campaign to win free driving licence medical examinations for lorry drivers.
National officer Mel Thornton explains that URTU will "take our mobile office down to Lon don after the end of Scottish Truckfest. By then we hope to have the names of many thousands of drivers who are prepared to support our cause."
Thornton is confident of securing the support for the campaign from the Welsh Trades Union Congress at its annual conference which began on Wednesday 25 May.
This would add to backing already received from the English and Scottish TUC congresses.
From the age of 45 all truck drivers have to renew their vocational licences every five years. This currently entails a medical which can cost up to £120.
