• A senior source within British Rail says some of Railfreight Distribution's management wants the Government to subsidise RfD's intermodal contain er carrying subsidiary Freightliner following a sale to the private sector.
The source says there are worries that bidders for Freightliner do not see the business as a viable whole and that parts of the business could be asset stripped.
RID managers estimate Freightliner's 1.39.3m annual losses will be down to £25m by the end of this year.
