North-West boost for gassing fleets

• British Gas launched a multimillion pound incentive scheme for fleet users in the North-West last week, marking a major change in its NGV (natural gas vehicle) marketing strategy.
Depot-based fleet operators who convert their vehicles to natural gas power will have a refuelling station provided free of charge. This is a substantial incentive—a permanent fast-fill NGV fuel station for up to 200 vehicles costs up to-X200,000— but other local fleets must be able to use the installation.
British Gas already has a major fuelling site at Warrington: a network of filling stations in the LiverpoolManchester conurbation and surroundings will be a step towards a UK network.
The new scheme was announced by Tom Gorman, NGV Marketing Manager of British Gas Contract Trading, at an event where fleet managers were invited to drive a variety of vehicles converted to gas operation. Gorman is confident that the favourable duty rates for vehicle gas will remain; he suggests that environmental pressures may even increase CNG's price advantage.
