Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

A multigrade oil which has been formulated to retain its viscosity of 20-50 between recommended oil-change periods, has a been introduced by BP. Named Super Visco-static, it also meets standards laid down by three American bodies including the Society of Automotive Engineers 10 (SAE).

The oil's additive combination will, it is claimed, result in less

engine deterioration and improved oil consumption—in 20 some cases as much as 15 per cent.
