• Wallsend-on-Tyne corporation has investigated complaints that fares on certain local bus services had been raised illegally. Bus operators were recently given permission by the Traffic Commissioners to increase fares over 8p by lp but it was reported later that fares of only 3p and 4p had been raised by this amount. The corporation's legal department took up the matter with the bus companies and the unauthorized increases were withdrawn.
