Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Eddie Stobart's drivers are "getting it in the neck" For the comments their boss made on television.

Stobart appeared on Channel 5's Truckers programme last month and referred to truck drivers as "tramps". Commercial Motor was immediately flooded with calls from angry drivers up and down the country complaining about this comparison (CM 26 Feb-4 Mar).

Despite a subsequent clarification by Stobart that he was referring to the past, and that modern drivers are "smart and professional", his drivers are being victimised on the road and shunned at transport cafes and truckstops. "I know you're not supposed to swear on the CB, but when a Stobart lorry goes by the air turns blue," says one owner-driver. "Stobart should quickly make an apology in Commercial Motor before things get out of hand." He says he has seen Stobart drivers being teased and jostled and fears someone will take matters too far.
