Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Southampton-based Meachers Group Holdings has become the first haulier to agree a three-year contract with National Coverage to provide 50 vehicles for an advertising campaign.

But Meachers, which is being paid £123 per vehicle per week, will not be the only haulier to profit from the scheme as some 70 hauliers, including MI Logistics in Leeds and Ryebased John Jempson & Son, have signed similar deals, according to National Coverage managing director Stephen Ellison.

"For a haulier with 10 vehicles this could mean about 430,000 over six months in the best-case," says Ellison. He says deals are in the pipeline with a wide range of other companies wanting to profit from truck advertising. And if the scheme takes off, Ellison says he will be looking for other hauliers to join, although he stresses they must satisfy a stringent vetting procedure. This includes having well-maintained, reasonably new, clean vehicles. Safe driving is a must but so far company repute and licensing have not been considered, admits Ellison.

National Coverage client Philips Business Communications says it decided to move away from "traditional" forms of advertising and believes the Meachers' promotion will allow greater exposure than before.

National Coverage spent the past two years developing the project and it was launched to the adver tising world in August last year.

Hauliers wishing to discuss a possible deal with National Coverage should contact Ellison on 01223 503666.

.7 Meachers managing director Bob Terris has been elected regional chairman of the Road Haulage Association's Southern & Eastern Regional Council.
