• Trucks and buses must run on cleaner diesel by 1996, EC environment ministers decided in Brussels this week. Sulphur content will be cut by between 15% and 20% in two stages by 1 October that year. The present permitted maximum sulphur level is 0.3%.
The move is unlikely to cause a rise in dery costs as most oil companies have anticipated the move, says analysts.
