CENTAUR ELECTRONIC Systems of Oldham, has developed an early warning in-cab TV system which detects mechanical failures, warns the driver, and where necessary cuts off the engine.

The Delphic system consists of a microprocessor to monitor electronic data received from 22 sensors mounted strategically around the vehicle.

Seven of these are positioned specifically to report on the engine oil and coolant condition, the gearbox oil level and the rear axle oil level and temperature.

A serious malfunction alerts the microprocessor which activates the system's robot device. This immediately operates the fuel cut-off solenoid, stops the .engine, and turns on the hazard warning lights.

The engine cut-off is indicated immediately on the driver's TV screen by the alternate flashing of an international warning symbol and the name of the failed function. There also is an audible warning.
