CUTS to Carlisle bus services were given the go-ahead by the Northern Traffic Commissioners last week. But Carlisle City Council legal representative Mr Richard Clucas told CM that the council was going to appeal against their decision.

A Ribble spokesman said that no date for the introduction of the cuts had yet been decided.

The Commissioners approved the reductions in the frequency of seven services to save Ribble about £48,000.

Mr Douglas Walker, for Ribble, said that the proposals were made in order to offer economies in operation, but justification lay in the low passenger figures of the \ seven services.
