Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

metres, as in the case of a drawbar trailer outfit for instance, how is it possible for a 15-metre articulated vehicle to be recovered by a breakdown vehicle? Surely this combination of vehicles would be longer than the legal 18 metres?

A Regulation 128 (1) of the Motor Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations 1973 makes provision for this eventuality.

The Regulation reads : "Where a vehicle is drawing only one trailer the overall length of the combination of vehicles shall not exceed 18 metres, except that this paragraph shall not apply where the trailer being drawn is constructed and normally used for the conveyance of indivisible loads of exceptional length or in the case of a breakdown vehicle being drawn by a motor vehicle in consequence of a breakdown."
