• Mr John Peyton and the French Minister of Transport, M. Jean Chamant, met in London on Monday for Channel Tunnel talks and discussions with the Tunnel's private backers. The Ministers agreed the main headings for the terms on which final research studies and the preliminary works could be undertaken. They also agreed the terms on which operating arrangements could be negotiated.
The private group has meanwhile deckled to go ahead with final studies, the first phase lasting a year. Target date for a decision to build is 1973.
