The owner of a skip must ensure that it is properly lighted during the hours of darkness; that each end of the skip is painted and carries a light reflecting strip; that the skip is clearly and indelibly marked with the owner's name, address and telephone number; and is removed as soon as practicable after it has been filled.

Under Section 26, the highway authority or a uniformed constable may require the owner of a skip to remove or reposition it. Failure to comply as soon as practicable will bring a fine of up to £50.
