WEST MIDLANDS Tenders by Mr. ,F. Taylor, Henwich Mill, Lower Broadhealit, Worcester, for units 1109 and 1097 have been accepted. Unit 1109 comprises a Foden 7-tonner and two Seddon 7-tonners. The other consists of an E.R.F. 15-ton eight-wheeler, a IVfaudslay articulated 12-tonner and a Maudslay Mogul 8-tormer. All the vehicles are being replaced, those in unit 1109 by an Atkinson and two Seddons and those in unit 1097' by Atkinsons. The new vehicles are being supplied by Ryland Garage, Ltd., Birmingham, 16.

Until his concern was nationalized its 1949, Mr. Taylor worked in close collaboration with the late Mr. A. G. Taylor, and he will now operate the fleet jointly with Mrs. A. G. Taylor. in partnership with her son, Mr. Ivor Tayior, and Mrs. Jane

Taylor. The two Taylor families are unrelated.

The combined fleet of the concerns before 1949 was 35 vehicles, which were mainly Atkinson lorries engaged on king-distance transport. Mr. A. G. Taylor's fleet was also nationalized and Mr. Taylor was given employment by British Road Services which he continued with until his death three weeks ago. Mr. F. Taylor, after 12 months' employment with B.R.S., started as a coach operator and now runs three passenger vehicles. The two families intend fully to re-establish their original haulage operations.

Mr. F. Taylor and Mrs. J. Taylor told The Commercial Motor that they advertised in the Press their return to haulage and that they were already overbooked with orders. Operations started on Monday morning.

Two Bedford 5-tortners have been purchased by Mr. G. R. Owen, The Garage, Shrewsbury and two vehicles of -the same make and type by Messrs. F. Edwards

(Salters). Salters Lane, Shropshire. Mr. Owen operates five 5-tonners, mainly carrying livestock, and will employ the special A-licence vehicles for the transport of farm implements and so on. Mr. Edwards has two 5-tormers, which are also used for live stock transport. Both have been in the

haulage business for over 25 years. .

Mr. D. Farmer, The Woodlands, Callow Hill, Kidderminster, has purchased a 5-tonner. •

Mr. A. C. Leak& Sheaf Lane, Sheldon. has purchased -unit 1534—one vehicle (3 tons unladen) based at Willenhall.

Services from Shropshire to London and Liverpool ha Vt beets started by Mr. J. M. Trevor, Granville Avenue, Newport, Salop, who has bought units 1089 and 1106—two E.R.F. 71-tqpners, a Bedford 5-tonner and a Bedford-Scammell articulated 8-tonnee. Since his 10 vehicles' were compulsorilv acquired by the B.T.C. in July, 1950. he has been running three 8-tonners under a C-hiring margin.

EAST MIDLANDS •

For the moment, Mr. -B. Wigelsworth. 71 Newland Drive. Scunthorpe, Lines, is using two Bedford 6-ton tippers acquired from B.R.S. for the transport of road materials in Lincolnshire, Yorkshire and Nottinghamshire. He already has a fleet. As soon as he can obtain platform vehicles, however, he will engage in long-distance haulage. He has bought unit 1207, based at Scunthorpe.

Mr. T. H. Brown, Brigsley Road, Waltham, Grimsby, has acquired two Bedford 5-tonners from the Louth-Grimsby Group; Messrs. E. C. Cowan and Sons, Old Stratford, Wolverton. Bucks, a tipper hase4 at Wellingborough, sold in unit 1531; and Mr. G. E. Johnson, North Kelsey, Lincoln, four vehicles (II tons unladen) based at Crowle, Scunthorpe, in unit 457, and four tippers (12 tons), also based at Scunthorpe, in unit 1203. Mr. Brown has already sold one of his lorries to Messrs. W, F. and F. Coxon, North 'Moresby, near Grimsby. He is to do both local and long-distance work.

EASTERN COUNTIES

Mr. D. Griffiths, Moulton* Newmarket, who, as reported last week, has re-entered road haulage, has bought units 1462 and 1463: based • at Bury St. Edmunds, which comprise between them six vehicles (two articulated) of 14 tons unladen.

Messrs. Page Bros., Capel St. Mary, Ipswich, who were also reported last week to have been successful, have resumed their' old-established business and are running a daily service from Ipswich and district to London. They have bought 10 Bedford 6-tonners.

A Northampton unit (1528) has been purchased by Kilby and Davison, Ltd., Bedford. It consists of three vehicles, including an eight-wheeler, totalling 16 tons unladen.

Mr. S. Reader, laordham, Ely, has acquired unit 1216, based at Fordham and made up of two vehicles (6 tons).

WESTERN AREA A Bedford three-compartment horsebox is among the seven vehicles purchased by Messrs. Warners' Transport, Upper Farm, Asaon-on-Carrant, near Tewkesbury, Glos. The others are three Bedford 5-tonners, a Commer 6-tonner, a Thornycroft 6-tonner and a Thames 5-tonner. Livestock and general haulage over any distance is to be undertaken.

Two low-loaders are understood to have been acquired by Messrs. Elliott Bros., Princes Street, Cheltenham. Mr. F. Read, Read's Garages, Frome, has bought two vehicles, one based at Yeovil and the other at Frome. A substantial purchase is also reported by Western Road Haulage Co., Peter Road, Bristol. Ten vans and a spare vehicle totalling 29 tons unladen, an office, workshop and garage (unit 1185) have been purchased by Mr. F. S. Pope, Wellsway Garage, Keynsham, Somerset.

SOUTH WALES Mr. F. G. Happe is picking up the threads where they were broken by nationalization by operating mainly between South Wales and the Midlands with an Albion 12-tonner and an Albion /Wormer which he has purchased in unit 1544.

T.S.P. Transport, Ltd., Villiers Road, Skewen, has been formed by the amalgamation of A. Trott and Son, Ltd., Skewen, and Messrs. George Seaman and Sons, Morriston. The new company on Monday took over six vehicles from the B.R.S. depot at North Dock, Sw,ansea.

LONDON AND HOME COUNTIES Messrs. J. Shirley and Sons, 35 Naylor Road, London, S.E,15, have bid for about 50 vehicles and have succeeded in obtaining two Bedford 7-tonners. They now have some 80 vehicles. When their business was nationalized, 90 vehicles were taken over.

Charna Transport, 43 Christchurch Road, London, S.W.I5, have purchased a vehicle (3 tons unladen) in Unit 1171 based at Poole, Dorset. Mr. H. E. Tippen, High Street, Marden, Kent, is returning to haulage with a locally based unit (1665) of four vehicles (10 tons unladen).

The Metropolitan Licensing Authority has granted a Special A licence to S. J. Meads Transport, Ltd., IA Earl Road, London. S.E,1, for IS vehicles totalling 66 tons 2 cwt. unladen. They comprise Bedford 5-6-tonners, Cormier 8-harmers, three Foden, one E.R.F. and one Alison oil-engined four-wheelers, two Foden sixwheelers and a Foden eight-wheeler. General goods are being carried mainly to Manchester, Liverpool and Glasgow. Formerly, the lorries were based at Canon Beck. Bermondsey, and served the Midlands and the Potteries.

A. Pile and Sons, Ltd., St. Vincents Road, Dartford, have acquired four Bedford-Seammell articulated outfits. One was assigned to Messrs. E. and H. Ridgewell, All Saints Road, Northfleet, Kent, and another to Messrs. Draper Bros„ London Road, Stone, Dartford. A Seddon has replaced one of the remaining Bedfords. Pile's offer general haulage facilities mainly in London and the Home Counties and run services also to Birmingham and Manchester.

Two vehicles belonging to Messrs. C. G. Ferris, 33 Dalkeith Road, Harpendn, two articulated outfits of G. H. Ballaa Ltd., Campbell Road, Twickenham, and four Commer 7-tormers of MacKay Transport, Ltd., 36a Queen Mary's Avenue, Watford, have also been licensed.

Fifteen vehicles and four trailers have been purchased by 14. Hilliard (Transport), Ltd., lA Lett Road, Stratford, EIS.

Adam Bros. (Kingston), Ltd., IA Manorgate Road, Kingston, have taken over three vehicles from Mr. A. W. D. Adams, who has sold a fourth vehicle to Graham Adams, Ltd., Dickerage Lane, New Malden (The Commercial Motor. February 5).
