A meeting of the above was recently held at the Institetion of Electrical Engineers. Mr. J. S. Highfield, the Cilia Engiotter of the Metropolitan Electric Supply Co., ter& his seat as the representative of the Incorporated Aasociation of Electric Power Companies. Mr. J. A. Phillips, of the British Thomson Houston Co., Ltd., and Mr. R. A. R. Bolton, id the Siemens Bros. Dynamo Works, Ltd., have been elected as representatives on the Committee of the British Electrical tied Allied Manufacturers Association's Motor and Switchgear Sections xeseectively.

The Commercial Sub-committee presented a report on tariffs, in consequence of which it was decided to circularize Electric Supply Authorities in order to ascertain at what minimum .prices they would be willing to supply electric energy for charging the batteries of electric vehicles. In drafting this -letter, the Secretary was directed to point to the desirability of making the prices as low as possible. The Committee, 'realizing the necessity of Electric Supply Authorities themselves adopting the use of electric vehicles, if proper progress is to be made, have been, through their Secretary, in communication with Mr. John Burns, the late President of the Local Government Board. It was pointed out to Mr. Burns ;what beneficial results the adoption and extended use of

the electric vehicle would have in increasing the output and improving the load factor of Supply Stations, and he was asked, in order to facilitate the purchase of vehicles by Municipal Authorities, his department would be willing to sanction loanS for the purpose. The following reply has been received from the 1kcal Government Board:— " Local Government Board, Whitehall, S.W.

"F. Ayten, Esq.,

Hon. Secretary of the Electric Vehicle Committee. "Sir,--I am directed by the Local Government Board to advert to your letter of die 2nd inst.., with reference to the use of electric veils by Municipal Electric Supply Authorities, and to state that the Board are prepared to entertain applications from Local Authorities for sanction to borrow money or the purchase at vehicles which they are authorized to Provide in connection with the exercise of their statutory powers. The Board would not, however, be disposed to suggest that any particular form of self-propelled vehicle should be purchased. " I am, Sir, your obedient servant, "Signed) N. T. KERSHAW,
