BRITAIN'S two leading coachbuilders have reported mixed fortunes in recently published financial results.

Plaxtons pre-tax profits for the 26 weeks ended March 28 improved from £185,000 in 1981 to £351,000 in 1982.

The cab conversions and small passenger vehicle division made a loss of £105,000 during the 26-week period. The luxury coach and special products profit for the period was £17,000, with only Plaxtons' building and shop-fitting company increasing its profit in the period to £138,000. The coach bodybuilding profit has reduced from £202,000 in 1981, although that year's large redundancy payments adversely affected the result.

Plaxton predicts some improvement in its major coach bodybuilding activity, with the introduction of the Paramount body range.

Duple International lost £424,000 in six months, to February 1982. The bodybuilding division, Duple Coachbuilders, accounts for 84 per cent of group. turnover, and one per cent of the loss.
