Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

DOST OFFICE pressure is on Dr. Beeching for a cut in his charges for carrying parcel mail, writes our Political Correspondent.

Following the success of his road experiment in East Anglia, PostmasterGeneral I. R. Bevins is now being tempted to make more switches to road.

A nationwide change-over would take up to three years to complete, and would lose the railways a large slice of their £21 m. annual postal traffic revenue.

As an old customer of the railways. however, Mr. Bevins is attempting to come to terms with Dr. Beeching. To reports that the Post Office are becoming impatient, the official reaction is that the talks are proceeding " satisfactorily ".

At this stage, neither the Post Office nor the railways expect any difficulties. There is no doubt, however, that the East Anglian experiment has brought rewards in time and money. And this is the challenge to Dr. Beeching.
