Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

THE running of special buscs by West Bridgford Transport Department within a Si-mile radius of the town will not be permitted, as the clause in the Bill, now before the House of Lords, which sought to extend the department's powers has been deleted. The clause was opposed by a number of private coach companies and the Public Transport Association.

Mr. R. Cope Morgan, for the Trent Motor Traction Co., Ltd., submitted to the Select Committee of the House of Lords that the question was whether power for " special purposes" covered the operation of contract carriages. He contended that it did not. The clause would allow stage carriages to run all over Nottingham without the supervision of the Licensing Authority, and was contrary to the present general policy of Parliament.

END OF THE BELti AST "TRAMWAY AGE"

THE finish of the "tramway age" in Belfast was marked by the opening of the new motorbus and trolleybus depot at Short Strand, said the Lord Mayor, Aid. P. Brown, when he performed this ceremony last week. This summer, when deliveries bring the fleet strength up to 100 motorbuses and 80 trolley buses, the last of the tram services except those for Queen's Road, will close.

To keep down costs, covered accommodation has been provided for only workshops and stores: vehicles are garaged in the open. An cx-R.A.F. hangar, measuring 120 ft. wide and 240 ft. long, has been erected. The building is heated by coils in the floor warmed by water from an oil-fired boiler.

It is based on a Morrison-Electricar P.90 battery-electric chassis, the specification of which includes Lockheed hydraulic, four-wheel brakes, an enclosed ventilated traction motor, and a choice of a 108 amp.-hr. or 135-amphr. Young lead-acid battery.

SPEED OF DISPOSAL

AT a Press conference, last week, Lord Hurcomb, chairman of the British Transport Commission, said that the speed with which the Road Haulage Executive's undertaking would be broken up depended on the lines on which the Road Haulage Disposal Board wished to proceed. These had not yet been decided.

CONSTANT REMINDER

TO enable drivers to distinguish between 8-ft. and 7-ft. 6-in.-wide buses, white steering wheels are to be fitted to 30 Leyland Titan 8-ft. doubledeckers which have been ordered by Plymouth Corporation. The new vehicles have Hybridge 56-seat bodies.
