WITH -a view to saving weight, VV A. C. Penman, Ltd., Dumfries, has patented a container body which, it is stated,can be fitted to a light 5-ton chassis, without exceeding the 24-ton limit of taxation and speed.
Two detachable steel tubes pass through the body and -protrudeat • each side. When the vehicle is driven between two parallel sloping bars, which form a ramp, the container is automatically 'raised clear Of the chassis, Which can then be withdrawn. It is replaced in a 'similar manner. The accompanying illustrations show the removal of a' cattle container 'from a Bedford 3-ton chassis. A -double-deck body of, this type can be supplied for any size of chassis at a price of about :E85.
