THE SHRINKING UK car transporter sector has seen its latest casualty with Norfolk-based CPR Vehicle Deliveries to be voluntarily wound-up after more than 30 years of trading.

The firm, which is authorised to run 30 vehicles and 30 trailers across two operating sites in Dereham, Norfolk and Worksop, Notts, appointed liquidator Bridgestones on 10 July.

According to the liquidator’s statement of affairs, CPR is winding-up with an estimated total deficiency of £481,831: preferential creditors, which includes employee wages, are owed £8,337; trade creditors are owed £92,477; and HM Revenue & Customs is due £360,000. CM spoke to one of CPR’s directors, who declined to comment on the nature of the collapse, but says it is “a very sad day” for the business, which has been managing the transportation of vehicles for 32 years.

This latest closure follows a string of high-profile collapses in the sector this year: on 31 January, Quantum Automotive entered administration, followed by sister firm Sensible Transport, whose assets were snapped up by Autologic; in April, car transporter Spirit Motortransport ceased trading and its assets were also bought by Autologic. In June, Stobart Group made a successful bid of £12.4m to acquire Autologic.
