Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• The directors of Crewe-based Combined Road Services (CRS) have decided to go into the property business rather than carry on their 30-year old haulage firm.

Next month auctioneer Malcolm Harrison will sell CRS's 19 Volvo tractors and 33 fork-lifts as well as its office and garage equipment.

The decision to call it a day was taken after CRS lost its main contract with Prince's Foods three months ago; the contract is believed to have gone to Bowie Distribution.

CRS director Ray Douglas will only say: 'I'm switching the business into property management" CRS is understood to own two large sites in Cheshire which will form the basis of the property business.

Douglas is the latest in a long line of hauliers who have decided there is more money to be made renting out their property than running CVs.

ln March, Bristol brick haulier IR Dunkerley closed down after 53 years in the business. We did think about trying to carry on but there's more money to be made letting out property than there is in haulage," a spokesman said at the time.

• Malcolm Harrison will auction CRS's fleet and equipment at the company's Crewe headquarters on 4 August Contact 01782 372966.
