Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

air distribution systems. Motivair is a multi-site supplier offering a range of equipment for workshops and factories. Its products include air distribution systems, compressors of up to 1,000cfm, control valves and filters plus a choice of ring main fittings.

Essentially it has two types of anodised, aluminium plumbing sys tems: the SimplAir Hollow Bar (HB) modular arrangement; and a low cost SimplAir SpeedLine (SL) of extruded tubes of 14mm, 22mm and 28mm diameters and with varying flow rates and pressure limits.

The squared-off hollow bar system is slotted for easy mounting and fitting of take-off points and gauges, but has a smooth corrosion-free centre tube. Its safe working pressure is 14bar (203psi) and there's a choice of five bore diameters from 14mm to 63mm.

Old pipework tends to corrode or scale up over time, which causes considerable frictional losses and reduces air flow. If it is replaced by the latest air circuitry a smaller sizing diameter can be used without affecting either flow or pressure. There are energy savings too.

Modem watch But importantly for large CV workshops that depend on a hefty constant supply of compressed air, Motivair's Protect Air pack

age offers round-the-clock protection.

If your equipment is regularly serviced by one of its engineers, only a phone call is needed to have an emergency repair done.

It's also possible to have the system condition monitored via a modem link. "A bit like a sleeping policeman, really," says Dry-Parker. It watches over the equipment and, should any adverse condition develop, we will know about it long before even the mechanic does."

Almost every vehicle repair facility or body shop depends on pneumatic power tools, such as power grinders, impact wrenches and spray guns. They're absolutely vital to the trade, yet all too frequently their pressure supply systems are neglected.

According to SIP Industrial Products' senior technical manager Keith Hopewell, good maintenance will certainly help keep energy costs down.

Dirty filters and an excessive buildup of water in air receivers can result in excessive demand on the motor, reduced capacity in the receiver and the likelihood of corrosion damaging the system.

It can also affect power tools, such as impact wrenches or angle griridei so it's important they too are lub sated, usually on the air intake side.

Unlike Motivair Compressor which is one of Europe's larger inc pendent distributors of air comprE sors and associated equipment, 5 offers a wide range of workshop to and equipment, mainly for custome with smaller workshops. They inclui bench grinders, welding gear, pun and generators, as well as pneuma tools and compressors up to 45cfi "But no matter what size the t system is," says Hopewell, "whi neglect sets in, so too do inefficien and increased energy costs. It m only be small cheese at first, but over one or two-year period it could I enough to pay for a new compress or air wrench set".
