A Liverpool company that lost its operator's licence in December 2000 has succeeded in winning a fresh one. Aintree-based Grifpack had applied to North Western Traffic Commissioner Beverley Bell for a licence authorising the operation of two vehicles and two trailers, but was granted a licence authorising the use of three vehicles and two trailers to provide the company with a margin.
The firm's previous licence, which authorised eight vehicles and four trailers, was revoked after the TO decided it was no longer of good repute because of its poor maintenance record and a failure to comply with undertakings that were given at a previous public inquiry.
The TO said that it seemed the company now understood its responsibilities under the licensing system.
Managing director Raymond Griffiths said: "Copious mistakes have been made in the past and that is why I now want to stick with just two vehicles.
"You learn by mistakes, and it was a costly mistake that I made," he added.
The licence was granted on the condition that the TC would be notified if there was any change in the firm's contracts. The TO added that the vehicle examiner had been happy, and in those circumstances she too was happy.
