• by Colin Barnett and Steve Banner A new range of aggressively priced trucks is set to hit UK streets in October. North London-based Daewoo Truck UK is busy developing a dealer network (see Dealer News. page 51).
The 0-Line range of lightweights comes from Daewoo Avia, a Czech company which, although currently controlled by the troubled Korean car maker, is run independently. Already launched in some Continental markets, the 0-Line is expected to come to the UK in 6.0, 7.5 and 9.0-tonne GVW versions.
D-Lines on sale in Italy are powered by four-pot engines from Avia—a 3.5litre with two valves per cylinder pro
ducing 115hp, and a 4.0-litre four-valve unit of 136hp—but UK models will come with Cummins engines. Initially there will only be a day-cab version, with up to three seats, but a crew-cab is under development.
Although the 0Line's styling reflects its Far East roots it was actually designed in Europe, largely at Avia's Prague research centre, with much input from the former Daewoo technical centre at Worthing. The equipment level promises to be comprehensive, despite highly competitive prices: a figure is being quoted of 8% below the equivalent lveco.
