Mr. Baker is 8180 8 member of Motor Industry Research Association advisory panels on vehicles noise and braking; following his new appointment, B. M. Rushby has been appointed experimental engineer. A. M. Porkess has been appointed engineering manager—engines and units. Mr. Porkess has recently Joined AEC from Perkins Engines A. M. Company. In addition to the three group appointments, J. S. Moon has been appointed vehicle specification engineer. Mr. Moon was formerly chassis safes engineer.

J, S. Moon Norman Bezzant has been made Master-elect of the Worshipful Company of Carmen and will succeed G. W. Quick Smith as Master in October. At last week's election court, J. M. B. Gotch and J. H. R. Haswell were elected liverymen of the company.

Sir Frederick Warner, 58, has been elected president of the Federation of European National Associations of Engineers IFEANI)—the first time a British professional engineer has held this post. Sir Frederick succeeds Senator Battista, of Italy.

Norman Morton, who resigned as Sunderland Corporation transport manager last October is to take up an appointment at Newcastle upon Tyne University next month. Mr. Morton will become senior research officer in traffic engineering in the Department of Civil Engineering. Mr. Morton resigned over policy disagreements with the corporation. P. Chalmers Somerville, managing director, George Gibson and Co. Ltd., has been elected chairman of the Scottish section of the Institute of Transport, and D. Herlihy, deputy general manager. ClIr. Neville G. Trotter, chairman of Newcastle upon Tyne Corporation's, traffic, highways and transport committee, has been elected chairman of Area B (Northern) of the MPTA and Federation of Municipal Passenger Transport Employers.

P. Yorke has been appointed a director of the Potteries Motor Traction Co. Ltd. in place of J. H. Richardson, who has resigned. Mr. Yorke also has been appointed a director of the Birmingham and Midland Motor Omnibus Co. Ltd., and has joined the boards of its two wholly owned subsidiaries, Leamington and Warwick Transport Co. Ltd. and Stratford-upon-Avon Blue Motors Ltd. Lord Buckhurst and R. A. Taylor have resigned from the board of the Birmingham company, and Mr. J. H. Richardson has resigned from the boards of the subsidiaries. G. M. Newberry has been appointed director of the North Western Road Car Co. Ltd. in place of Mr. Richardson, who has resigned.

Michael Chandler, 35, has been appointed an inspector in the TRTA's maintenance inspection service and will be responsible for the area centred on Leighton Buzzard. Mr. Chandler was formerly employed by the Esso Petroleum Co. Ltd.

Sam Buckley, for the past 11 years on the staff of Commercial Motor, has joined the Road Transport Industry Training Board as information officer in the public relations department. He will be largely responsible for writing the Board's monthly newaheet Transport Training, the first issue of which has been published this month.

Peter Stott, the GLC's traffic commissioner, left by air for Australia yesterday where he is to address the fourth biennial conference of the Australian Road Research Board. Mr. Stott will speak on "City development—the management and structure of movement".

J. Niblock has been elected chairman, and G. McKay a director, of East Midland Motor Services Ltd., Chesterfield, and of Trent Motor Traction Co. Ltd., Derby, in succession to R. J. Ellery. who has retired from the boards of both companies. Mr. Ellery had been chairman for the past 12 years.

OBITUARY

We record with regret the death of Edward Cyril Edmonds.

Mr. Edmonds, 72, was president and former chairman and joint managing director of Hallam. Sleigh and Cheston Ltd., Birmingham. In 1966, after 50 years' service with the company, Mr. Edmonds was elected to the presidency and retired to live in Jersey, where he died last week.
