FORD'S 2.5-litre direct injectioi Transit diesel engine is finall on sale in the UK a year afte production of the small high speed direct injection unit (C1V, April 28, 1984) began at thi company's Dagenham engin' plant.
More than 20,000 2.5 direc injection units have alreadN been installed in left-hand-driv( vans built at Ford's Genk, Bel gium factory.
During 1984 the diesel instal lation rate at Genk increased by over 10 per cent to 61 per cent.
The current diesel installatior rate at Ford's Southampton Ul< Transit van plant is around 2C per cent, although the company sees this as rising to 30 pel cent by the end of 1985 and tc 40 per cent by 1990.
