MRS. Barbara Castle and her two most experienced lieutenants, Mr. Stephen Swingler, Minister of State for Transport, and Mr. John Morris, senior of the Parliamentary Secretaries, will serve on the House of Commons Committee which has the mammoth task of dealing with the Transport Bill. Heading the Tory team, which will be fighting the measure tooth and nail, will be Mr. Peter Walker, Shadow Minister of Transport, with Mr. David Webster and Mr. Geolrey Wilson among his leading supporters.
Only one Liberal, Mr, Peter Bessell, has been appointed to the Committee, but what the Liberals lack in strength they more than make up for in hostility to the Bill. Over 500 of the amendments so far notified have come from the Liberals.
Seventeen Labour MPs and 12 Tories plus Mr. Bessell face the months-long task of considering each of these amendments, under the chaimianship of Wing Commander Robert Grant. Ferris.
